Fracture Mechanics

Course Overview


This advanced course will help students and teachers in understanding fundamentals of Fracture Mechanics. The context of course includes Fundamentals of the Theory of Elasticity, Elastic Crack Model, Griffith Energy Balance, Plasticity Effects, Fatigue Crack Growth and Numerical Stress Analysis.

Dr. Tribikram Kundu, Director of NDE Laboratory,

Professor of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics

Professor of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering

Dr. Kundu has made significant and original contributions in both basic and applied research in nondestructive testing (NDT) and structural health monitoring (SHM) by ultrasonic and electromagnetic techniques.  His fundamental research interests are monitoring the health of existing and new structures by ultrasonic and other NDT techniques.  His research is on elastic wave propagation in multi-layered solids, fracture mechanics, computational mechanics, geo- and biomechanics. Humboldt Fellowship Award(96-97,89-90), Humboldt Research Prize(2003). NDE Lifetime Achievement Award(2012)from The International Society for Optics and Photonics. Research Award for Sustained Excellence(2015)from The American Society for Nondestructive Testing. Elected Fellow of ASA, ASNT, SPIE, ASCE, ASME.
